“The voice from the cloud spoke: ‘This is my Son, the Beloved.  Listen to him.’
Then suddenly when they (apostles) looked round they saw no one with them any more but only Jesus.”   (Mk 8)

This painting is an attempt to portray the Transfigured Christ of Fra Angelico’s Transfiguration scene in which he portrays Jesus with Moses and Elijah and the apostles Peter, James and John.

Remembering the quote from the letter to the Hebrews: ‘Let us not lose sight of Jesus,’ I try to sit with this image and let it be ‘only Jesus’ that I see while I contemplate on the love that He is about to show me personally in His passion. The Father allowed Jesus to have this experience, to strengthen Him and His apostles for His forthcoming passion.  From time to time, Jesus allows us, too, glimpses of His glory in order to strengthen our faith in His abiding presence in the midst of the pain and sorrows of life.

While Moses and Elijah represent the law and the prophets, Jesus, Himself, is the fulfilment of all Revelation.

As I look at this image, I put myself in the apostles’ place, knowing that in whatever circumstance in which I find myself – be it fear, illness or grief - “it is good for me to be here, because You are here with me.”

Yes,
Jesus is help for the helpless,
The strength of all the weak
A light for those in darkness
A way for those who seek
He is peace and consolation,
He heals our sin and shame,
He is Saviour, Son of Mary,
And Jesus is His Name

(The image used in this reflection was painted by one of our Sisters and will shortly be available for purchase)
