A very Special Tree Panting

Last Thursday (21st August) we had the privilege of hosting a very special tree planting, as part of the "St. Oliver 400" celebration of the National Heritage Week. The Oak sapling that was planted had been grown from an acorn taken from one of the Oak trees, which stood on the grounds of the house that St Oliver Plunkett lived in in the 1660s, in Ardpatrick, Co. Louth. It was a beautiful ceremony, with very moving and uplifting speeches given by Tomás Hodgins, Councillor Declan Power (Deputy Mayor of Drogheda), Fr Paul Calton Lea, Senator Alison Comyn and Councillor Ejiro O'Hare Stratton. There was also wonderful music provided by Anna Maria Tully and Liam Kelly. Tommy Burns said a Prayer for Peace and the tree was blessed by Fr. Blazej O.P., with a concluding prayer to St. Oliver by our Prioress, Sr. Breda.
We were delighted that so many people chose to take part, including our parish priest, Canon Eugene Sweeney PP, VG; and that the weather was fine. Below are some pictures from the event.
