Why would the Father send His Only Begotten Son into the world?
Why would the Father send His Only Begotten Son into the world?
An exceptionally good answer, taken from
‘The Pastoral Letters of St Charles Borromeo,
is worthy of prayerful meditation,

and will hopefully increase
your amazement in the wonder
and mercy of God, and lead you
closer to Him as you live through
these days of Advent
(– you’ll find it in the Office of Readings today)
“The Father sent His Son
out of His immeasurable love for us sinners.
He sent Him
to free us from the tyrannical power of the devil,
to invite us to heaven and lead us into its inmost sanctuary.
He, the Son, was sent:
to show us truth,
to teach us how we should live,
to share with us the source of all goodness,
to enrich us with the treasures of His grace.
Finally He was sent to make us sons of the Father
and heirs to eternal life.
We might wonder, in Mary’s contemplation of the Mystery growing beneath her heart, whether any of these thoughts came to her and how filled with hope she must have been: that by His very coming He would renew the face of the earth.
